4 motorists are seriously injured in a Ripley County crash

Several motorists were seriously injured when a 23-year-old Lawrenceburg resident drove her General Motors Company (GMC) sports utility vehicle (SUV) into oncoming traffic on the afternoon of May 9.

According to Indiana State Police, the motorist who is believed to have caused the crash was apparently traveling southbound along United States Highway 421 just before the crash. It was right before 3:30 p.m. that she suddenly crossed the roadway's center line into oncoming traffic.

Fortunately, the first motorist that she encountered, a 44-year-old Osgood man, was able to swerve off the road to avoid being struck. He was fortunate to have not suffered any injuries in the crash.

The 24-year-old operator of a Ford cargo van wasn't as lucky though. The SUV operator crashed head-on into the Indianapolis resident's vehicle. He was also transported to a Cincinnati hospital suffering from serious injuries.

His passenger, a 33-year-old Indianapolis resident, was transported to Batesville Hospital where he too was admitted with serious injuries.

Firefighters had to use the jaws of life to remove the SUV driver and her 3-year-old passenger from their vehicle. Both were deemed to have suffered serious injuries in the crash. They were both flown by helicopter to a hospital in Cincinnati.

Police are awaiting toxicology results for all motorists involved. Their investigation continues.

Many factors can cause a motorist to lose their focus while driving and drift into other lanes. Unruly children, speeding, alcohol or drug impairment and texting and driving are just some factors that may result in a motorist losing control of their vehicle. If a motorist engaging in any of these behaviors caused your crash, then they may advise of your right to sue the negligent motorist for damages.
