How can you spot a drunk driver before it’s too late?

On Behalf of | Mar 5, 2021 | Personal Injury

Most drivers realize that driving is a serious matter that requires them to be responsible. Unfortunately, there are some who think that they can operate a vehicle after they’ve had a few drinks. Those impaired or intoxicated drivers can cause serious crashes that lead to injuries or fatalities.

Anyone who is on the roads should know the signs of drunk driving so they can try to stay away from those drivers.

Beware if you see a driver doing these things

While there are many signs of drunk driving, some are more common than others. These include:

  • Driving on the wrong side of the road
  • Braking erratically or without reason
  • Accelerating aggressively
  • Making abrupt turns, sometimes without a turn signal
  • Failing to obey traffic signals and signs
  • Swerving between lanes
  • Straddling the center line
  • Driving much slower or faster than the speed limit

If possible, report such a driver by calling 911, but only when it’s safe to do so. You’ll need the make, model, and color of the vehicle, as well as the location of it and which way it’s headed. If possible, get the license plate number. Remember, never try to chase down a drunk driver or stop them on your own.

Individuals who are injured by a drunk driver may have catastrophic injuries that require extensive medical care. Those victims can and should seek compensation for the cost of medical treatment, physical therapy, lost wages and others expenses and damages related to the crash. An experienced attorney can help ensure that you get the compensation you need and deserve.
