Beware of drunk drivers over the holidays

On Behalf of | Dec 17, 2021 | Personal Injury

The holiday season is one that comes with lots of parties and fun. Some adults will enjoy alcohol during this time. It’s imperative that they find a way to get home that’s safe. Nobody who’s been drinking alcoholic beverages should attempt to drive home.

Unfortunately, not all adults realize that the dangers of driving after drinking start long before they hit the legally impaired mark. Those drivers can cause crashes that injure innocent people. Because of this, everyone on the roads should know the signs of an impaired driver so they can try to stay away from those vehicles.

What are the signs of an impaired driver?

The signs of an impaired driver may vary some, but there are many that are common. If you notice any of the following signs, try to avoid going near them and contact the police to report the issue when it’s safe for you to do so:

  • Swerving on the road, possibly into oncoming traffic
  • Braking without any valid reason to do so
  • Driving through stoplights and signs
  • Failing to use a turn signal
  • Hitting (or almost hitting) things on the roadside

Anyone who’s on the roads during this holiday season is at risk of being struck by a drunk driver. While it might be possible to avoid those drivers on the roads, there’s still a chance of a crash. If you’re injured in a crash with one, be sure that you get the medical care you need.

Seeking compensation can help to offset the costs associated with your injuries. You can include things like your lost wages, medical expenses and other damages. Be sure to do this quickly because state law sets strict time limits for these matters.
