What You Should Know About Indiana Delinquency Proceedings
In Indiana, the juvenile justice system is quite different from the adult criminal justice system. The state typically does not charge juveniles with a misdemeanor or felony criminal charge. Rather, it files a petition for delinquency. Juvenile delinquency means that a minor has acted in violation of the law.
The child can admit or deny the offense. The case will proceed to a hearing in which the prosecution and the defense present their evidence. Then, a judge will decide whether the child has broken the law and will issue a sentence.
Your Child Has The Right To Legal Representation
Our firm has successfully defended juveniles who have, among other charges, been accused of:
- DWI and DUI
- Drug possession and trafficking
- Underage drinking
- Sexual offenses
- Disorderly conduct
We can negotiate with the prosecution in an attempt to have your child’s charges reduced or dismissed entirely. If negotiation does not work, we will aggressively defend your child in juvenile court.
